Jeff Gordon: One of NASCAR'S Greatest

Jeff Gordon is one of the most popular race car drivers around today. Chances are, even if you are not a race fan, you know the name Jeff Gordon and the #24 car. Although, Mr. Gordon has had his ups and downs in the racing industry, he remains to keep himself on track. There have been several controversies that could have destroyed other drivers' careers, yet Jeff continued to do his job.

Jeff Gordon was born in early August 1971. At a very surprisingly young age, Jeff began his racing career. At five years old, he was already racing in the midgets. The races were only quarter miles, but that is still astonishing to say the least at five years old. Early on in his childhood career, he was named in the 1989 USAC Midget Car Racing Rookie of the Year. Quite an accomplishment, considering his wasn't even 18 years old at that time. He won the USAC Midget title in 1990. Jeff was the youngest winner of the USAC Silver Crown, winning at a mere 20 years old.

His next career move was to take home the prize in the Busch Series in not only 1991 but also 1992. Unbelievably, Jeff Gordon won his very first NASCAR race, the Winston Cup Series. This win, can make any drivers career, although it being the first race, definitely set a criteria Gordon would need to keep up with.

Jeff Gordon's personal life has also been put into the headlines. There have been accusations, his divorce was highly public, along with a question in his sexuality. However, even with such negative issues being public, Jeff remained focused and continued in 2007 to be the driver with the most wins in a NASCAR Nextel Cup.

Jeff continued to break records, and in many cases he seemed to make it look like a simple thing to do. He was victorious in the Aaron's 499, giving him the most Nextel Cup wins in history. The day before Gordon achieved this record he also received the pole at the Talladega Superspeedway. This win placed Jeff Gordon on the top of the list for poles.

After the devastating passing of Petty and Earnhardt Sr., Gordon was given the opportunity to become another racecar driving icon. Many people commonly refer to Jeff, as the next Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Richard Petty, two of the best known NACAR drivers since its beginning. Both Mr. Petty and Mr. Earnhardt Sr., has great accomplishments and had higher career heights, yet Jeff continues to show exactly what the standards should be among all racers in NASCAR.

Although, Jeff has had to deal with some serious ups and down during his career, he remains to be among the best known and respected drivers in NASCAR today. Undoubtedly, he will make it into more record books and continue to strive to be the best. In Jeff Gordon's racing career, one thing remains the same, that regardless of the issues he is facing, he continues to keep his fans cheering for him and doing the absolute best he can.
